Awwwww
Apparently, you're not allowed to be blasé about birthdays around kids, even if they're not the kids' birthdays.
I told the girls my birthday tomorrow was "no big deal" and Julia cried through half of dinner. I tried telling her it could be a big deal if I wanted it to, but that I didn't...but she was having none of it.
So I guess it's gonna have to be at least a medium-sized deal. Maybe we'll have ice cream sundaes for dinner. That oughta do it.

Mmmm,ice cream.
Sounds like aomeone could use an unbirthday party.
I know how Julia feels. I was talking to my youngest son today who called me to wish me a happy birthday and I asked him what he would like for his birthday. He's going to be 24 and he said "peace and quiet". What is that supposed to mean? He said that birthdays are for kids. It made me sad and I can't seem to shake it.
I'm with Julia. Birthdays are to be celebrated, and if it can be done on THE day, so much the better. I'll do the best I can with the kids next week! Sandy will help!
I remember your childhood parties and cakes (think rainbow for at least a couple of years). And I remember the first year that we were NOT able to celebrate your birthday with you. It was 1986, you turned 17, and you were in England with the Sisks.
The first birthday that I was NOT able to celebrate with Lisa was 1993, she turned 21, and I was on my Sabbatical in Ohio. This year we will celebrate with her. Then she will drop me at RDU so I can come see you.
So - HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
Ice cream is definitely birthday food. Enjoy! And happy birthday again!
Happy birthday, you little whipper-snapper!
I switched to pulling forty some while back, and seriously, it ain't all that big a change.
Enjoy your day, Jen, and look forward to the next forty!
