Oh yeah
At the gym on Monday it was announced that one of the instructors had been let go, and that a new guy would be taking over his classes beginning the next day. Someone asked me who they were talking about. Not really wanting to rely on his sexual orientation, which I think is what a lot of people consider his most memorable characteristic, I tried to describe him:
He's that thin black guy who teaches the tae-bo class? (Blank look)
He wears his hair really short? (Clearly not ringing any bells)
You know, sometimes he dyes his hair and shaves designs into it? (Still nothing)
Oh, yeah, he only has one arm. (Oh, him)
Funny what you remember most about a person.

I did that once describing a guy that used to work here with no arms. Made a point not to use that in the description. (Now people who we are describing other people to know we're sisters.)
Jennifer Tucker, you know the one who lives in Costa Rica...(blank look)
She dyes fabric and puts on retreats and makes beautiful creative quilts...(nothing)
She used to be a translator...(ringing no bells)
The computer geek who keeps a blog on the funny happenings in her family and makes us laugh daily...(oh, HER)
Actually, I was trying not to mention that he was gay although (in his particular case) it is the most obvious thing about him.
But I actually forgot about the arm at first. It's just not what you remember most about him, even though the classes he taught involved arm movements and once in a while he'd have to specify "both arms" or "just one arm" because we couldn't tell by watching him.
