Guess who rode a train today?
The trip is an hour long. It goes from the center of San José out to Pavas (to the west), back through the station, then to San Pedro (to the east) and back to the starting point.
The excursion is mainly for families with kids, and includes singing, dancing and general tomfoolery
Which some preferred to watch from a distance
The train stopped at the end of the line in each direction. The engine was detached and moved to the opposite end of the (two-car) train so we could go back the way we came.
This is the train in its entirety:
After the train trip, we went to the National Children's Museum. Very hands-on, very well done. Very much more to it than we thought - we had 2 hours before it closed, but could easily have spent twice as long...Fortunately, it's inexpensive and easy to get to, so we'll just go back another time.
(The 1-hour train trip costs $1.50 per person, all ages. The museum is $1.50 for children, $2 for adults.)
The museum used to be the penitentiary. There are before & after photos in the entrance hall showing just how much work has been done to it.
A bit fuzzy perhaps, but this is much closer to what I think I look like...

I can just see the photos from when I visit. (someday I will get to visit!)
Photo #1: Us making a cake and doing a puzzle on the day we were going to go to the volcano.
Photo #2: Us doing a puzzle and watching Friends on the day we were going to go to the volcano.
Photo #3: Us tackling some freaky weird spontaneous but way fun project on the day we were going to go to the beach, but instead had decided to go to the volcano.
Photo #4: Us at midnight when we have just finished the project and decide that if we make a pot of coffee and some cookies we can probably manage a quick puzzle. After all, we earned it.
And so on.
Sisters rock.
Jennifer did NOT have my permission (or even my knowledge) to publish an intentionally hammed-up photo of me!!!!! (But I did enjoy the ride!)
So veddy veddy sorry...permit me to remedy the situation.
Well, we just purchased a digital camera. (Thanks Bob & Dot!) It's 6 megapixel w/ a 256 MB expansion card. Mind you, I didn't know about expansion cards until you mentioned your new camera, and Scott was all, "we'll need a card with more memory" and whatnot. Now I know what you and he were talking about. So anyway, we're shopping around and found the camera we wanted (Consumer Reports, you know,...thanks Dad!) for a good price, and we found if we got the 256 MB expansion card we could get it all for what we had planned to spend. Of course we could have gotten a bigger card for more $$$. Not knowing anything about anything, I figured 256 must be good since you were excited about 128. But I didn't think it was worth going over budget for say 512 or 1gig. And I'm trying to get meaningful input from Scott, but he's all over there, What did your sister get? Hmm? Is it bigger than your sister's? Hmm? As long as it's bigger than your sister's. Tell her I said that, okay? So anyway, we're finally going to have a digital camera. :)
And by the way, I just must say, our nieces are absolutely downright gorgeous! I mean, seriously.
